Carissimi amici di Agognate, questa lettera vi arriverà nel mese di settembre quando con l’apertura dell’anno scolastico la fatica delle ferie, per chi le ha fatte, e per chi non le ha potute fare, è messa da parte. Riprenderà la fatica di ogni giorno e le lotte per arricchire di più, quelle per vivere e quelle per sopravvivere, torneranno ad occupare i pensieri dei più. Nelle chiese, sempre meno frequentate, si continuerà a predicare il Vangelo, che non infiamma i cuori della maggioranza degli ascoltatori che hanno ben altri pensieri. I più ferventi corrono nei vari santuari mariani sperando di vedere qualche miracolo, dimenticando le parole di Gesù che ammonisce: «Questa generazione è una generazione malvagia; essa cerca un segno, ma non le sarà dato nessun segno fuorché il segno di Giona…. Perché essi alla predicazione di Giona si convertirono. (Lc 11,19)
Il vero miracolo è dunque la conversione, il cambiare vita, essere luce e sale della terra. Chi cerca i miracoli normalmente ha una pratica religiosa vuota dall’insegnamento di Gesù, spesso è superstizione, idolatria, empietà.Una superficiale statistica che ho fatto tra coloro che dicono di credere mi ha spaventato; quasi tutti non hanno neppure un minimo di amore, di accoglienza per uomini donne e bambini che fuggono dalla guerra e dalla fame. Qualche giorno fa un vecchio amico, che si dichiarava ateo, mi ha telefonato dicendomi che era stato a Medjugorje e si era convertito. Non sapevo se ridere o piangere perché appartiene ai più scalmanati che vogliono rigettare a mare tutti i profughi.
A Roma, in questo anno della misericordia, in piazza san Pietro vi è sempre una moltitudine di popolo. Papa Francesco indubbiamente ha un grande fascino, quando lui si muove e parla vi è sempre una marea di gente che applaude, ma quanti sono pronti a mettere in pratica i suoi insegnamenti? A questo proposito il Papa esorta tutti gli uomini e in modo particolare i cristiani: “La strada della Chiesa, dal Concilio di Gerusalemme in poi, è sempre quella di Gesù: della misericordia e dell’integrazione. Questo non vuol dire sottovalutare i pericoli o fare entrare i lupi nel gregge, ma accogliere il figlio prodigo pentito; sanare con determinazione e coraggio le ferite del peccato; rimboccarsi le maniche e non rimanere a guardare passivamente la sofferenza del mondo. La strada della Chiesa è quella di non condannare eternamente nessuno; di effondere la misericordia di Dio a tutte le persone che la chiedono con cuore sincero; la strada della Chiesa è proprio quella di uscire dal proprio recinto per andare a cercare i lontani nelle “periferie” essenziali dell’esistenza; quella di adottare integralmente la logica di Dio; di seguire il Maestro che disse: «Non sono i sani che hanno bisogno del medico, ma i malati; io non sono venuto a chiamare i giusti, ma i peccatori» .
Fabrizio De André cantava:
“E se credete ora
che tutto sia come prima
perché avete votato ancora
la sicurezza, la disciplina,
convinti di allontanare
la paura di cambiare
verremo ancora alle vostre porte
e grideremo ancora più forte
per quanto voi vi crediate assolti
siete per sempre coinvolti.”
La conclusione di questi miei pensieri la lascio ad Andrea Staid, mio nipote, che si definisce antropologo ateo, insegna all’università di Genova e mentre scrivo lui si trova in Cambogia.

In questo momento storico assume sempre più importanza rispondere alla domanda: come accogliere i migranti, coloro che hanno lasciato la loro casa per sopravvivere? Dare una risposta concreta non è facile, ma le possibilità di costruire un mondo migliore sono nelle nostre mani ed è necessario ripensare e ricodificare le modalità dell’umana convivenza. Troppo spesso accendendo la televisione o leggendo un quotidiano, siamo sommersi da parole quali “invasioni, clandestini, criminali” e dimentichiamo che prima di tutto questi “immigrati” sono uomini come noi e dovrebbero avere la possibilità di godere dei nostri diritti.
Non dobbiamo mai dimenticare che l’accoglienza è un concetto molto importante per l’essere umano: indica quel luogo che offriamo all’altro; vi confluiscono concetti basilari come: ospitalità, fraternità e umanità. Al liceo studiamo Kant, che tratta la questione del diritto cosmopolitico, un diritto in grado di varcare i confini degli stati e delle nazioni. Ci illustra il diritto universale all’ospitalità, cioè un diritto di visita, senza condizioni, e un diritto dell’ospite, per cui è necessario accogliere lo straniero come coabitante. È impensabile considerare un’umanità senza accoglienza: dalla nascita siamo accolti in un luogo che non è il nostro, dove viviamo temporaneamente come ospiti e, anche il ventre materno, non è che il nostro primo rifugio. Ognuno di noi è migrante nel suo microcosmo di relazioni, accolto e invitato ad accogliere proprio in nome di una coabitazione con l’altro, che il mondo contemporaneo rende imprescindibile.
Il cosiddetto fenomeno della globalizzazione ha portato con sé infatti diversi mutamenti, non solo sul piano economico e politico, ma anche e soprattutto per ciò che concerne l’aspetto sociale e culturale. Mutamenti che per la loro portata rendono difficile continuare ad appellarsi al ritorno di situazioni che si potrebbero definire pure, ma di una purezza in realtà mai esistita. Grazie alla mobilità internazionale e, quindi, alle maggiori possibilità di raggiungere in poco tempo parti diverse del globo e grazie alla naturale propensione dell’uomo a viaggiare con il proprio inseparabile bagaglio culturale, le nostre società, le nostre metropoli, sono sempre più comunità ibride e meticce. Per capire come accogliere e costruire il nostro futuro in un momento delicato come quello che stiamo vivendo oggi, è necessario fare chiarezza sulle possibilità di interazione con le comunità di migranti in arrivo o già presenti in Italia. Nella società attuale l’uso e l’abuso di determinati concetti porta a diversi problemi di comprensione.
Multietnico, multiculturale, meticcio, sono parole con significati complessi che troppo spesso vengono usate come sinonimi, mentre veicolano significati tra loro differenti. Il multiculturalismo imperante nella nostra società descrive fenomeni legati alla semplice convivenza di culture diverse, in cui gruppi sociali di etnia e cultura dissimili occupano uno spazio opposto e difficilmente si incontrano e dialogano. In questo caso le culture e le identità culturali vengono considerate come date, fissate, rigide e non suscettibili di mutamento. Il ritorno in auge dell’etnicità quale fonte di identificazione collettiva e spinta alle rivendicazioni, in seno alla modernità e alla globalizzazione, ha aumentato il multiculturalismo radicale. L’ideologia e le pratiche multiculturali – pensando alla società come un mosaico formato da monoculture omogenee e dai confini ben definiti – hanno, di fatto, aumentato la frammentazione (e il rischio di forme di apartheid, come possiamo notare nei fatti degli ultimi anni di Tor Sapienza a Roma, via Padova a Milano, di Rosarno o di Castel Volturno) fra le componenti della società, dimostrandosi validi strumenti per la costruzione di un’identità nazionale chiusa e incapace di comunicare.
Seguendo un movimento che può apparire paradossale il multiculturalismo si rivela, dunque, come il lato oscuro della monocultura. In contrapposizione al modello multiculturale si propone un modello anzi un pensiero “meticcio”, un pensiero transculturale, dove ogni differenza non allude a privilegi né ad alcuna discriminazione. La transcultura esige che gli uomini, migranti o meno, godano delle medesime “universali” possibilità e scelgano privi di vincoli comunitari, dove, come e quando vivere. Ogni persona ha il diritto di essere valorizzata nella sua unicità e irrepetibilità, nella sua continua trasformazione e negazione della purezza originaria. Immagino un mondo che sappia accogliere, ascoltare e capire le differenze e che tali differenze siano la ricchezza della società, un mondo aperto, senza muri e pregiudizi, pronto al mescolamento culturale, con al suo interno culture differenti pronte al cambiamento, all’ascolto e all’incontro.
Per accogliere i migranti e vivere meglio noi stessi la contemporaneità dobbiamo creare una relazione sociale tesa a soddisfare un’esigenza, un interesse, dove sia importante accettare di trasformarsi nell’interazione egualitaria con gli altri e prevedere la possibilità di diventare una persona anche molto differente da quella originaria. Viviamo in un mondo fatto di informazioni e immagini che ci sommergono continuamente, attraversiamo metropoli affollate, con strade che sembrano fiumi in piena di umani delle etnie più differenti, che con il passare del tempo si mescolano, si incontrano si scontrano e danno forma al processo meticcio: siamo “umani al di là delle appartenenze”. L’insieme dell’umanità si sta interconnettendo attraverso una rete di rapporti che si estende progressivamente all’interno delle nostre città, nelle nostre vite.
Nella società postmoderna assistiamo sempre di più a una rapida e profonda evoluzione dei modi di vita quotidiani, determinata da un insieme di eventi, dal mescolarsi di culture, esperienze diverse, fino alle sempre più veloci innovazioni tecnologiche che cambiano il nostro modo di vivere e vedere la realtà. Assistiamo a trasformazioni culturali dovute all’interazione tra fattori evolutivi, sociali, culturali, economici e tecnologici che raggiungono un’ampiezza senza precedenti. I mutamenti in atto stanno modificando irreversibilmente il nostro vivere quotidiano, il nostro modo di pensare e di percepire il mondo e la convivenza umana. Per questo è fondamentale costruire un mondo che sappia accogliere, ascoltare e capire le differenze e che tali differenze diventino la ricchezza della nostra società. Quindi è necessario prefigurare un mondo aperto, senza muri e pregiudizi, dove donne e uomini siano pronti all’ibridazione culturale.
Un mondo che al suo interno ospita una miriade di culture differenti pronte al cambiamento, all’ascolto, all’incontro. Una comunità che non entri in contrasto con la libertà del singolo. Per accogliere e trovare una casa per tutta l’umanità dobbiamo impegnarci a costruire un mondo di eguali per diritti ma differenti per culture, una società di donne e uomini liberi di creare la loro specificità culturale. La cultura non è mai una conclusione, ma una dinamica costante alla ricerca di domande inedite, di possibilità nuove, che non domina, ma si mette in relazione, che non saccheggia, ma scambia, che rispetta.
